The article, authored by Rahul Sen, states that Prime Minister Modi linked the visit directly with India’s Act East Policy and the MAHASAGAR vision — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions — placing the New Zealand engagement within a wider regional strategy rather than treating it as an isolated outreach effort towards a smaller Pacific partner.

The article highlighted that the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement and strategic partnership were announced as a combined initiative rather than as separate stages. It observed that India’s evolving Indo-Pacific partnerships are increasingly integrating trade cooperation with defence collaboration from the beginning, with maritime security dialogues emerging as a regular institutional component of these relationships.

According to the article, India has expanded its Maritime Cooperation Arrangement and Mutual Logistics Support Arrangement to New Zealand, a framework that New Delhi had previously maintained with key partners including Australia, the United States, and France. The move indicates India’s intention to expand its network of logistics and interoperability partners beyond the core Quad-related grouping.

The article further noted that Prime Minister Modi’s community event in Auckland and the participation of Indian diaspora leaders reflected a broader pattern in which India’s engagement in the Pacific region is supported by established community networks.
